119th PH Independence

#mitsamasg.  Hunyo 12. Maligayang Araw ng Kasarinlan ng Pilipinas!

It was a bright and beautiful morning at the Philippine Embassy earlier today as they celebrated a simple flag raising ceremony to commemorate the Philippines’ 119th Independence Day.  Mr. Shaun Acasio, our SAMA External Vice President, attended the event together with a handful of the Filipino community and friends in Singapore.

SAMA 15th Annual Party & SBT11 Awards

SAMA 15th Annual Party

The Association of Mapua Alumni, Singapore (SAMA) held it’s 15th Annual Gathering and SAMA Bowling Tournament Season 11 Awards Night last 3rd December at Jag Wine LLP located along East Coast Road. We were joined by our SAMA members, Mapua alumni, their families and friends. The party was co-hosted by our own Ms. Joy and Ms. Rochelle.

Team team responsible for receiving our guests were at the front door to give out sweets and raffle coupons for a fun raffle draw later in the evening.

We started off our event with the buffet dinner! Everyone was excited with the buffet lined up for tonight. The food was prepared and served by the excellent cooks of Jag Wine. We had big servings of spaghetti bolognese (not too sour, not too sweet… just right), crispy pork belly (marinated overnight in their mixture of sauces and spices with a dash of wine), barbequed chicken (hot and just enough spice to tingle every bite), mixed vegetables with quail eggs (special mention of the quail eggs as this concoction reminded me of the chop suey that we normally cook at home…), and fried rice (buttered and sprinkled with veggie bits). The dessert was dark chocolate brownies (uhmmmm it was the first dish that was wiped out in the buffet line). The buffet trays were kept filled with sumptuous food all throughout the evening.

The guests were also given an option to order free-flow of the wine bar’s house wine (red or white) and for the ladies, if they prefer, was a bottle or two of moscato wine courtesy of Ms. Bang.

After we got our fill of dinner, the program started with a 5 minute (more or less) look back at the 15 years since SAMA started in Singapore. Prepared and presented by our President, Mr. Edwin and a short welcome to everybody in the event.

We then welcomed our special guest from the Philippine Embassy, Consul Mers Mellejor, who gave us an inspiring talk and shared the latest new from both our homes, the Philippines and Singapore.

Internet of Things-part 2 Update

#mitsamasg / date: 2016.10.22

20161022 Internet of Things pt2

SAMA has organized the continuation of the seminar or talk about the 4th Industrial Revolution – The Internet of Things. Our returning speaker, Engr. Marlou Madrio, was kind enough to spend a few hours with us in the afternoon of said date above. We had more participants now with some coming from industries that actually use the internet of things in their respective projects.

The event started off with an opening prayer of Ms. Vhines, our internal Vice President.

Followed by the welcoming remarks by Mr. Edwin, our President.

After which, Mr. Shaun, our ext Vice President introduced our returning speaker for the event.

20161022 Internet of Things pt2

Our participants had a very good and practical exchange of thoughts and ideas with the speaker, who obliged us all with in-depth details and background of the information given to us at that time.

20161022 Internet of Things pt2

The internet of things are upon us and we are in the middle of them as they progress in time. From the smallest appliance at home (the lights controlled remotely) to the more bulky ones like the refrigerator and washing machines (being rolled out by on popular Korean brand), which can tell you what’s going on inside each them (the refrigerator telling you if you food that are nearing its expiry or the washing machine that tells you if the cycle is finished and its time to hang the clothes), we as consumers must adapt and be aware of all these things in order not to be left behind in the fast growing technology around us.

At the end of the talk, we presented our speaker with a plaque of appreciation for the time he spent with us and the knowledge he imparted as well.
