SBT12 Kick off meeting

2017.02.23 #mitsamasg #samasgbowling

Bowling season is here once again! Last night we kicked off the 12th season of the SAMA Bowling Tournament (SBT) with a team captains’ meeting at SAFRA Toa Payoh. It was attended by all the captains, and some with co-captains, except for one team who didn’t have any representative available. Not to worry as all updates and information will be shared to the internal chat group.

We have eight teams again this year. They are UAP1, UAP2, ANGAS, BOWLILITS, PICE, PINNOYZ, STRIKE ANYWHERE, and TURK3XYZ.

We discussed about the rules and regulations for this season and agreed on  the improvements suggested by some.

Games will commence on 2nd of March at SAFRA Toa Payoh from 8:00pm onwards. Refreshments will be served on the opening night.

If your are keen to play bowling and have fun, feel free to contact us through this site’s contact page or through our Facebook page.

We hope to see all of you in the event.

SAMA 15th Annual Party & SBT11 Awards

#mitsamasg  |  2016.12.03

SAMA 15th Annual Party

The Association of Mapua Alumni, Singapore (SAMA) held it’s 15th Annual Gathering and SAMA Bowling Tournament Season 11 Awards Night last 3rd December at Jag Wine LLP located along East Coast Road. We were joined by our SAMA members, Mapua alumni, their families and friends. The party was co-hosted by our own Ms. Joy and Ms. Rochelle.

Team team responsible for receiving our guests were at the front door to give out sweets and raffle coupons for a fun raffle draw later in the evening.

We started off our event with the buffet dinner! Everyone was excited with the buffet lined up for tonight. The food was prepared and served by the excellent cooks of Jag Wine. We had big servings of spaghetti bolognese (not too sour, not too sweet… just right), crispy pork belly (marinated overnight in their mixture of sauces and spices with a dash of wine), barbequed chicken (hot and just enough spice to tingle every bite), mixed vegetables with quail eggs (special mention of the quail eggs as this concoction reminded me of the chop suey that we normally cook at home…), and fried rice (buttered and sprinkled with veggie bits). The dessert was dark chocolate brownies (uhmmmm it was the first dish that was wiped out in the buffet line). The buffet trays were kept filled with sumptuous food all throughout the evening.

The guests were also given an option to order free-flow of the wine bar’s house wine (red or white) and for the ladies, if they prefer, was a bottle or two of moscato wine courtesy of Ms. Bang.

After we got our fill of dinner, the program started with a 5 minute (more or less) look back at the 15 years since SAMA started in Singapore. Prepared and presented by our President, Mr. Edwin and a short welcome to everybody in the event.

We then welcomed our special guest from the Philippine Embassy, Consul Mers Mellejor, who gave us an inspiring talk and shared the latest new from both our homes, the Philippines and Singapore.

Afterwards, we presented Consul Mers with a bottle of wine for him to enjoy at home!

Upcoming events…Sept/Oct

It’s been almost two and a half weeks since our last event – SAMA Family Day 2016. Thanks to our SAMA members, family and friends who came and spent the day (and overnight) of (lotsa) food, drinks and fun with us.

We also had a very interesting presentation of completed projects where BIM was used. Kudos to Engr. Sonny Andalis for doing the presentation and showing the technical details involved without being boring. Both his technical and non-technical audiences voiced their appreciations and further clarified parts where they found very interesting e.g. air conditioning using solar energy, many more. We really appreciate the time you’ve spent with us. Unfortunately he didn’t have the chance to enjoy the pool afterwards. Anyway, binawi na lang niya sa food hehehe.

Now, this September, we will have two sports events – basketball and bowling.

We hope that some of our basketball enthusiasts and friends will be able to join us in this year’s 3-on-3 Basketball Games! In the tradition of our badminton event last May, this basketball games will have a similar inter-school concept. Contact us via the link or thru Mr. Shaun Acasio for details. [Update 18/Sept: 3-on-3 will be held on 1st October in November 2016, tentatively instead of this September, due to schedule conflicts with other basketball tournaments.]

Meanwhile, our weekly bowling tournament will have it’s Masters Event this coming Sunday, 4th of September. Details are posted in our bowling group’s fb page. Cheerers and clappers are most welcome to attend. Our bowlers will surely appreciate it! Interested parties may also contact us thru our contact page or thru Mr. Rico Cordero for details.

This coming October, we will be preparing for a Seminar for our members. The details are still being finalized and we will post it soon here. [Seminar details in the recent post: Industrie 4.0]

Lastly, we are also looking for volunteers to help us with some heavy lifting activities for the Bayanihan Center in October. This will be happening in two or three weekends depending on the turn out of volunteers. More volunteers mean faster completion of the job. Interested parties may contact us thru our contact page or drop a message to Mr. Edwin or Ms. Joy for details. Everyone is welcome. Let us do this the ‘bayanihan’ way.
